Building and pest inspections in West End
West End is a mix of workers cottages, post war homes, timber Queenslanders, and a fast growing number of apartment buildings along the river and around Boundary Street. It also sits in one of the lower lying parts of inner Brisbane, so flood history matters here.
Homes in West End
The older housing stock is small timber cottages and Queenslanders on narrow blocks, often lifted or extended, plus some brick homes from after the war. The newer stock is mid and high rise apartments, many finished in the last ten to fifteen years.
What we look at closely in West End
- Signs of past flood water in subfloors, lower walls and built under rooms
- Stumps and bearers in older cottages, including any restumping work
- Termite risk where gardens and timber sit close to the ground
- Waterproofing and drainage in newer apartments and townhouses
- Shared walls and fire separation in older semi detached homes
Local things to know
Large parts of West End were affected in the 1974 and 2011 floods. Before you buy, check the Brisbane City Council Flood Awareness Map and order a FloodWise Property Report for the address. In our report we note any visible signs of past water damage we find, but a visual inspection cannot confirm flood history on its own.
